How fast a company spends cash beyond its income each month.
Burn rate is the net monthly cash a business loses — expenses minus revenue. Divided into cash on hand, it gives the runway: how many months until the money runs out.
Gross burn counts total spending; net burn subtracts revenue. Founders watch it closely to know when they must raise or reach profitability.
