Coupon Rate
A bond's annual interest payment as a percentage of its face value.
The coupon rate is the fixed annual interest a bond pays, stated as a percentage of its face (par) value. A 5% coupon on a $1,000 bond pays $50 a year.
Because the coupon is fixed but the bond's market price moves, the effective yield differs from the coupon rate once the price changes.
