FUTA (Federal Unemployment Tax)

A federal payroll tax employers pay to fund unemployment benefits.

FUTA is paid by employers, not employees — effectively 0.6% on the first $7,000 of each worker's wages after the standard state credit, a maximum of $42 per employee.

It works alongside state unemployment tax (SUTA) and is separate from the Social Security and Medicare taxes under FICA.
