Interest Rate

The cost of borrowing money, or the return on savings, expressed as a yearly percentage.

An interest rate is the percentage a lender charges to borrow, or a bank pays to save, over a year. On loans it sets your base payment; on savings it drives your earnings.

Unlike APR, a quoted interest rate usually excludes fees, so it's not the full cost of a loan on its own.
