Future value = current savings compounded monthly, plus the future value of your monthly contributions. The real (today's-dollars) balance divides that by (1 + inflation) raised to the number of years.

Frequently asked questions

Why show a balance in today's dollars?

A million dollars in 35 years buys far less than a million today. The real balance deflates the nominal projection by expected inflation so you can judge its true purchasing power.

What inflation rate should I use?

The long-run US average is roughly 2.5–3%. The default of 2.5% is a reasonable starting point; adjust it to your own assumptions.

Sources & methodology

Assumes a constant return with monthly compounding, plus an inflation adjustment for the real balance. Does not model taxes or market volatility.
